Trip Description

Moss Island is an amazing geological formation of giant potholes in an igneous intrusion of syenite along the Mohawk River at Lock 17, Little Falls, one of the tallest locks in the world. There are interesting depressions and cliffs to explore and a good variety of vascular plants and mosses, including dwarf oaks and sphagnum. Dr. Leslie Hasbargen, a geologist from SUNY Oneonta, has offered to come along on the hike and provide information on the geology of the site.

THIS TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELLED. WE WILL TRY AGAIN NEXT YEAR.
