Hiking Difficulty
Moderate. We will be moving slowly, but spend much of our time off-trail in rocky habitat, and perhaps climb Mount Tom or some portion of it.
Trip Description
The site is a diverse hardwood forest on the NY/VT border, with limestone present and a rich flora, and potential for some rarities such as Carex backii. Mount Tom is also home to a small cliff called the Notch, known for nesting ravens, and for two rare mosses we may try to find — Hairy Apple Moss, and False Hair Moss.
We will meet at the parking area near the south end of Notch Road –more specific directions to follow after registration. There are no facilities at the site. Please bring lunch, snacks, and water.
