Trip Description
Join Erik Danielsen on this exploration of the recently-opened Camp Stonehaven, owned and maintained by the Town of Lewiston. Lush herbaceous plant communities typical of the rich slopes and limestone outcrops of the Niagara Escarpment await, ranging from waterleaf carpets to scarce sedges and even a few rare species.
Participants can expect to slowly cover a couple miles at most at this small site, which is mostly level but includes short steep slopes. Footing can be tricky in limestone talus areas. Be prepared with stout hiking footwear. Also consider bringing rain gear, lunch, and adequate water. Assume there are ticks so be prepared to repel them.
We will meet at 10am in the main parking lot at the end of Albright Rd in Ransomville, NY (43.186136, -78.912455). We will plan to return to the vehicles mid- to late afternoon.
